About the Siberian

Siberians originate from Russia and are a medium to large, semi-longhair breed with males ranging from 15 to 20 pounds and females slightly smaller. They are easy keepers and work well for families with kids and other animals. Siberians are generally affectionate, social cats, often known as “dogs in cat skins”.

Siberians are not non-allergenic but rather hypoallergenic, decreased dander qualities is one of many reasons Siberians are still commonly sought after for this very unique trait. Most of the families that adopt our kittens are allergic to cats to some degree. But it’s best to test your allergies by playing with our kittens.

Most allergic reactions (60% – 90%) that people have to cats are caused by a protein called “Fel d-1.” This protein is excreted by their saliva and glands in their skin. So when a cat grooms themselves it spreads.

Unlike many of our furry friends, a Siberian cat’s molting is not triggered by a change in temperature but rather by the change in daylight hours. Brushing your Siberian helps keep their coat detangled but the main component of a healthy coat is their food, if the cats are not getting the nutrition they need their coats will become matted and dry.

Siberian cats have water-repellant coats and some actually enjoy water. Don’t be surprised if your Siberian jumps in the shower with you!
